Packing notes

A practical packing checklist.

Pack in an order that lets you keep living in the home. A checklist is useful when it reflects your rooms and deadline, rather than an ideal timetable that no longer fits.

Keep a practical copy beside your packing plan.
  • Write down your move date and any access deadlines.
  • Choose what you are taking, what needs a decision and what may need removal.
  • List the rooms you will pack yourself and the areas where you want help.
  • Start with suitable seasonal belongings, books and spare-room items.
  • Leave daily kitchen, bathroom and work essentials accessible.
  • Mark one clear staging area for finished boxes without blocking exits.
  • Keep medication, documents, keys and valuables with you.
  • Make an open-first box for each essential room.
  • Confirm transport, loading, parking and the packing appointment separately.

A useful detail

If the move date is close, choose priorities instead of trying to finish every room at once. Tell the team what must be ready first.

Use the guide to prepare your own plan, or ask for help with the rooms and tasks you would like to hand over.

Packing notes

Make the first night easier

An open-first kit keeps the most useful everyday items separate from the rest of the move. Pack it for your household, then keep it accessible rather than buried with everything else.

Packing notes

Keep. Ask first. Remove.

Sorting becomes easier to manage when an undecided item has somewhere to go. Three clearly marked areas help separate packing work from decisions about disposal.
